GALLERY OF FRANK R. PAUL's SCIENCE FICTION ARTWORK
artwork (c) Frank R. Paul estate
Interior art by Frank R. Paul for April 1932 Wonder Stories, illustrating "50th Century Revolt" by Arthur G. Strangland.
Close-up.
From the story's introduction in the magazine:
We who live on earth at present, enjoying a mild and healthful climate do not often think of the races of men who passed through many climactic cataclysms on earth.
The successive glacial ages that swept over the earth decimated our forbears who did not possess the strength, or foresight, or cunning to work their way to a warmer climate. It is only because men did escape from the waves of ice that descended from the poles, that we live today.
Such cataclysms must be expected again - and possibly of a different nature than any we have seen. And just as the civilizations of Atlantis, of Easter Island, of the Aztecs vanished, so ours may vanish if we are unable to cope with the strenuous times that may come.
Mr. Strangland pictures vividly such a crisis on human life, and in this fast moving story he shows how men, who are men, would meet it.
