GALLERY OF FRANK R. PAUL's SCIENCE FICTION ARTWORK

artwork (c) Frank R. Paul estate

Art by Frank R. Paul for October 1940 Science Fiction Magazine

The original painting for this piece, 23 in x 16 in, oils on canvas, is now in the Jane and Howard Frank collection of science fiction art, as described in their book The Frank Collection, 1999, Paper Tiger, London.

About this piece they wrote: "Abduction of Big Red shows Paul's ability to paint something as seemingly absurd as giant chickens and to imbue them with the same range of fears and threats their human counterparts experience. Note the air of danger. Note the evil alien in the red chicken suit. Note the damsel in distress. The painting hangs on our Wall of fame right next to Universe in Darkness." (p.34).
